Programs & Services

Ultimately, the goal of any program or service delivered by the Society is to help in shaping responsible individuals and good citizens.

Since its founding in 1949, the John Howard Society in Sarnia has maintained a client centred service ideology. To that end, we believe those who have offended the community through criminal activity are best assisted in their rehabilitative efforts through one-to-one based interventions delivered by knowledgeable, empathetic professional staff and community volunteers. It is difficult work requiring diligence, time and expertise. It often goes unnoticed.

From services originally aimed at incarcerated or recently released adult male offenders, the Society’s compendium of programs and services has, over the years, grown to include female offenders and youth who now make up a large part of our caseload. Those who take part in our programs come from all walks of life, cultures and ethnicities represented in our community.

From intervention to prevention, the Society works to help individuals who are involved, or at risk of being involved, in the criminal justice system make positive, effective and fulfilling changes in their lives.
